The Event

The 2009 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon is the fourth annual event hosted by Tate & Tryon and West, Lane & Schlager to honor financial executives in the Greater Washington Metropolitan area for contributions in exceptional leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to promoting improved accountability and financial reporting practices. The 2009 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards recognize individual contributions and accomplishments while highlighting the important role that CFOs play in the overall success of the organization.

The 2009 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards will be presented in the following categories:

2009 Not for Profit Organization Symposium
This year's luncheon will be held in conjunction with the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, 2009 Not for Profit Organization Symposium, held at the Mayflower Hotel on December 14th and 15th.  The Symposium offers 16 hours of CPE Credit (with specialization in Tax, Accounting/Auditing and Management topics). The Hosts

The Speaker

David M. WalkerThe Hon. David M. Walker serves as President and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. As CEO, he leads the Foundation's efforts to promote federal financial responsibility and personal financial responsibility in order to keep America strong and the American Dream alive.

Prior to his current position, Dave served as the seventh Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) from 1998 to 2008, spanning both Democratic and Republican administrations. Appointed by President Bill Clinton and confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate, he was an outspoken, nonpartisan advocate for addressing the major fiscal and other sustainability challenges facing the country. He also enacted transformational reforms within GAO and the accountability profession both domestically and internationally.

Prior to his appointment to run the GAO, Dave served as a partner and global managing director of Arthur Andersen LLP and in several government leadership positions, including as a Public Trustee for Social Security and Medicare from 1990 to 1995 and as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Pension and Welfare Benefit Programs during the Reagan Administration.

Although no longer the US government's chief auditor, Dave continues to serve as a global accountability expert as Chairman of the United Nations Independent Audit Advisory Committee. He also serves on the boards of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the Partnership for Public Service, as well as the Advisory Board of Toffler Associates. In addition, he is the Executive Counselor for the American Society for Public Administration and recipient of the Alexander Hamilton Award from the Center of the Study of the Presidency.

Dave has authored two books, is a regular commentator, and is the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A., which premiered in theatres around the country in August 2008. He is currently working on a new book that will be published by Random House in 2009.

Dave holds a B.S. in accounting from Jacksonville University, a certificate in Senior Management in Government from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and several honorary doctorate degrees. He has won numerous leadership, public service, and other awards during his career. He and his wife, Mary, live in Alexandria, VA and have two children and three grandchildren.
